How Roo Capital Took Scamnetic From Bold Idea to Market Leader
Through rounds of investment capital and crucial role fulfillment, here’s how Roo fostered a committed dynamic and provided significant value to Scamnetic.
Meet Scamnetic
Scamnetic launched in 2023, when co-founder Al Pascual observed a huge gap in the current cybersecurity market: scam protection.
He found that 7 out of 10 victims of scams call their bank first, yet 1 in 5 of those victims discontinue their banking relationship after learning that their bank is powerless to help. With a high demand and no direct competitors, Scamnetic was created, providing a solution to this dramatically increasing need for those whom it affected most cybersecurity and banking firms.
Scamnetic’s everyday solution is a patented, AI-driven engine that helps consumers detect scams in real time. Because the tech can be easily integrated into enterprise platforms, service providers can seamlessly transition from at-risk enablers to stewards of consumer safety.
Scamnetic’s Challenge
After initially self-funding Scamnetic, in 2024, the co-founders were ready to develop their industry-changing technology and sought seed money from investors. But they ran into an initial challenge; investors didn’t fully understand their unique B2B2C business model of selling their technology primarily through banks, telecoms, insurers, and consumer cybersecurity partners, rather than directly to consumers.
Introducing Roo Capital
Scamnetic was ready to grow, and co-founder Al Pascual knew they had a product that filled a major gap within the market. Now they just needed a committed partner who felt the same: enter Roo Capital.
Scamnetic’s relationship with Roo was built on understanding. As founders and operators themselves, Al found that the Roo team was ready and willing to take the time to understand their business and quickly became believers in the product and its future.
Here’s how we provided the capital, talent, and growth that transformed this early-stage company into a category-defining leader.
Step One: Roo Capital
Roo Capital stepped in early on with an initial investment in Scamnetic and has been committed to the business and its growth ever since. After Scamnetic began to scale, we were ready to fund the second (and third) rounds of investment. As a team of operators who offer founder-friendly terms, Al found Roo was more than just investors we’re true believers in Scamnetic and excited to build the brand.
With our favorable terms and active support of Scamnetic’s growth, a positive and committed dynamic between Roo and Scamnetic was born.
Step Two: Roo Search
Unlike traditional executive recruiters or VC firms, Roo is invested in the process and the outcome for founders and their businesses, providing more than financial investments and hiring recommendations. We quickly identified staffing needs for Scamnetic, and then, using our talent tool, Roo Search, we helped find high-quality candidates to fill crucial roles like Head of Customer Success and Chief Financial Officer.
Step Three: Roo Growth
During the last step in Roo’s process, we use our hands-on, operator-led expertise when it’s time to execute. For Scamnetic, that meant navigating the complexities of scaling a cybersecurity business with a level of insight and support that’s rarely found in venture capital firms.
Using Roo’s vast experience as operators with multiple successful exits, we offered leadership and practical advice on areas including:
- Product pricing
- Anticipating unforeseen challenges when a scaling business
- Deal structuring
- Growth strategies leveraging strong partnerships and distribution channels
The Roo Impact
Roo Capital has formed a lasting partnership with Scamnetic, leading to powerful results. The brand has quickly caught the eye of several key industry players, resulting in profitable partnerships and advanced discussions for major deals to come.
In the near future, Scamnetic looks forward to continued international growth in new markets while evolving its technology in scanning engines. With the massive acceleration and pervasiveness of AI-produced and deepfake videos, scams are becoming harder and harder to detect for consumers. By continuing its product evolution, including new features like scam-detecting video scanning, Scamnetic is remaining at the forefront of cybersecurity technology while solidifying its place as a market leader.
“(Roo) are operators, which is super important because they appreciate being in this seat. It’s not just someone who’s checking the boxes… They understand where we’re coming from.”
